After 2 years of experimenting with every lubricant and additive we could get our hands on, and consulting with leading lubrication and bearing engineers, we have formulated our own SuperSpeed™ Bearing Lube #32 (BL32) specifically for both ceramic hybrid and steel ball bearings used in the high speed, high stress environments of racing.
Our base oil is a proven, industrial strength, low friction lubricant with high film strength, very low viscosity, extreme pressure additives, penetrants to remove contaminants, and moisture displacers and corrosion inhibitors to extend bearing life. Our proprietary formulation also includes solid friction reducers PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and sub-micron hBN (hexagonal boron nitride) particles.
hBN is one of the lowest friction solid molecules known (significantly lower than even PTFE) and is fully compatible with our base oil. It bonds with metal such as steel to fill in any imperfections or wear damage, and provides a super-hard, extremely low friction boundary layer. This is particularly important in ceramic hybrid bearings, where the extremely hard silicon nitride (Si3N4) balls can actually damage the softer surface of the steel raceways, increasing friction and accelerating wear, defeating the benefits of the ceramic balls. hBN also offers a much more compatible interface surface to the Si3N4, keeping friction to an absolute minimum, and maximizing the promised 2-4 times longer life of the ceramic balls.
So why is the price high - or is it? First, we use only the highest quality base oil, additives, PTFE, and highly pure, sub-micron hBN. We also prepare the formulation in small batches to ensure quality, and add the hBN to each bottle individually, ensuring the exact proper ratio of hBN to base oil. Even the applicators we provide are high quality, medical-grade bottles made of soft low density polyethylene (LDPE) with 18 gauge, 1.5 inch pin point needles to reach under our no-contact seals, or apply drop-by-drop on the bearing balls once the seal is removed (our preferred approach).
Second, very little of SuperSpeed™ Bearing Lube is needed - only 5-10 drops per bearing. And with our needle applicator, there is no waste, so expect our 1 oz bottle to last about as long as that 17 oz can of your favorite spray lubricant, saving you the equivalent about $5/can in actual use. In fact, if you bought just our base oil by itself in similar quanties and packaging, it would cost 4 times as much as SuperSpeed™ Bearing Lube #32 with PTFE and hBN!
We believe SuperSpeed™ Bearing Lube #32 is the highest quality, lowest friction bearing lubricant available. And its actual cost in use is likely less than your favorite spray lubricant. So why not use the best lubricant available, especially for ceramic hybrid bearings, proven in demanding race conditions?
