The Interstate SLA1079 is a compact, maintenance-free 12-volt sealed lead-acid battery widely used in TAG-style push-start kart applications. Although not originally designed specifically for karting, its physical size, output, and durability have made it a go-to battery for electric starters on engines such as IAME KA100, X30, Leopard, and Mini Swift.
Interstate batteries are known for consistent cranking power, long service life, and strong resistance to vibration — all critical in motorsport environments where reliability matters more than labels.
Battery Options – SLA vs HSL (High-Rate)
Most TAG kart engines (X30, KA100, VLR, Rok GP) traditionally run a standard 12V 7–9Ah SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) battery. SLA is the common, factory-style choice and works well for normal starting needs.
If you want stronger cranking power, faster starter spin, and better performance in hot or tight engine conditions, upgrade to an HSL (High-Rate Sealed Lead Acid / AGM) battery. HSL batteries deliver higher discharge current with less voltage drop under load, giving more reliable starts and better recovery between sessions.
SLA = standard replacement.
HSL = stronger, faster, more reliable cranking
